Part of "Human Apostates" talk missing?
by breakfast of champions infor full disclosure, i did not personally go to the convention on the day of the talk, but am going on my wife's recollection and her thorough notes.. when she got home, i asked her about the part and what was said, point by point from the beginning of the talk.
i then mentioned this point (lifted from the other thread ):.
"for instance, in one country a news report instigated by apostates falsely stated that jehovahs witnesses supported hitlers regime during world war two.

I know a few years ago when i was still attending the DC there was a talk that some points were supposedly coming up but then the talk they gave at the DC I attended these points were omiited. Like someone else pointed out here that it could be that some talks very from convention to convention depending on the outline.

Emotional Blackmail is ingrained in JW's. My sister tried that crap on me a few months ago. We just lost my father a few years ago and my sister said something like, oh well dad would be so happy if you came back into the organization. I grew up with this s*&^% all my life and I am used to it but they call this a loving organization that stoops to emotional blackmail.

(dumb?) Fox News Host says Stupid Things to Scholar Who Wrote About Jesus
by fulltimestudent inwhether this woman asked these questions of her own accord, or they were written by staffers, is not the point.
the real point is how can people in a country with some of the world's best universities ask such dumb questions.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aqhmllq-odw#at=13.
... and if you wonder what reza aslan's views are about jesus, listen to him here, courtesy of all saints church in pasadena a few days ago.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3zi4o242d2s.

I did not fully understand what I was getting into. Now I do not believe in Jesus as being anything but maybe a human that lived 2000 years ago.

Former Longtime Elder- Met up with a Former CO,DO
by James Jackson inat a convention recently, i met with don wallace, a former co and do.
he told me he came off the road 6 years ago and is living in scottsboro al.
him and his wife are in their late 70's.

So this CO/DO didn't even believe the BS he was pushing. While he was wisely putting away for his retirement he was busy telling others to not worry about retiring in this system as it is coming to an end within our life time.

Baffling comment by my JW parents about non-witness funeral
by joyfulfader inmy parents attended the funeral of an elderly family member today.
being out of state i was unable to attend.
i asked how it went and was told that "worldly" people don't care enough about anyone to mention anything personal.

The two most recent JW funerals I have attended have actually broken rank and given a very nice eulogy of the deceased. I was shocked. Both were prominent elders in their local area. A VERY prominent former Bethelite gave one of the discourses. I thought perhaps there was a new outline allowing some kind comments about the dead person. After all, that individual's memory is why we all gathered.
I have to say that when my father passed away the Elder giving the talk knew my dad and really personalized it. I would say he spent most of the time talking about my father and maybe 10 to 15 minutes about the religion. The Elder that gave the talk knew my dad and really genunely liked him. I think that made a big difference.

I think it depends who is giving the memorial talk. As long as the Elder that is giving it is not a conservative type and have to stick to the outline and they know the person personally then they might perosonalize the talk some what. Otherwise in my experiance it just becomes a big preach fest.

The more time I spend with "worldly people" the more I realize...
by confusedandalone in... that they actually have more of a desire to get to knoww you then jehovah's witnesses.
for years at the kingdom hall although i was an elder everyone "knew of me" but no one knew me.
i realized that i never really had a friend who knew anything about me as a person or my background.
